Visiting Tóthfalu

This tour is recommended for all ages who enjoy history, traditions, and culture. It’s an excellent choice for families, groups of friends, and smaller groups who are eager to dive into Hungarian history and the traditions of Southern Hungary.

Day 1: Zombor – Bács – Tóthfalu

Our first stop is Zombor, the former center of Bács-Bodrog County. We will visit the County Hall, where the monumental painting "The Battle of Zenta" by Ferenc Eisenhut is displayed. Here, we will learn about the famous battle and the liberation struggles against the Turks. We will continue our visit to the Zombor City Museum, where we can admire the works of 45 Hungarian artists. Our next stop is the Bács Fortress, where, with the help of a short role-playing activity, we will recall the atmosphere of medieval parliaments. The evening ends with a social gathering, followed by a musical and dance event to celebrate our new experiences.

Day 2: Zenta – Tóthfalu

On this day, we visit the city of Zenta, where we will lay a wreath at the famous battle memorial, then get to know the history of the city and its role as a cultural center. Next, we will visit the Senta Artist Colony, where we will encounter works by local and international artists. The afternoon will be spent at a traditional village day, where we can try different handicraft activities: felting, batik painting, beadwork, and tasting local delicacies. The evening will close with a question-and-answer game, in which we will recall the works of Hungarian writers from Vojvodina.

Day 3: Subotica – Bergel – Tóthfalu

Arriving in Subotica, we start with a city tour and stop at the birthplace and high school of Dezső Kosztolányi, where we will hear about the life and works of the famous writer. Afterward, we will visit the Secessionist City Hall, which has become a symbol of the city, followed by a collective remembrance of the Treaty of Trianon. In the afternoon, we will spend time on the picturesque hill of Bergel, where we will have a communal bacon grilling, music, and learn folk songs. The highlight of the evening will be the presentation of a play about the Battle of Zenta, which will also be attended by the local community.

Day 4: Tóthfalu – Novi Sad – Petrovaradin

On the last day, we begin with a shared photo viewing and experience sharing session, then say goodbye to our hosts. In Novi Sad, we will take a brief city tour, where we will visit the main square, the Roman Catholic Cathedral, and the University of Arts in Vojvodina. After that, we will visit the Petrovaradin Fortress, where we will learn about the life of Hussar General András Hadik and lay a wreath at his grave in Futak. The day will end with a communal song singing session, where folk songs from Vojvodina will take center stage.
